Phu Quoc (12/5/19-15/5/19)
One day my bff, Dixie n I decided to go on a spontaneous trip to Phu Quoc, and so we did! I'd like to share the details of our trip to those who are interested to go to Phu Quoc, aka the pearl of Vietnam. With this I've also attached a copy of our itinerary, hope it's helpful!😄
To begin...
Budget:
RM 1500-RM2000. I’s trying to keep my budget low as I had an upcoming trip to HK few days right after Phu Quoc.

Accommodation:
We chose Bon Bon Bungalow, reason being it is economical and value for price. We
tried to keep our activities within close distance to where we stay for
convenience and cut cost on transport. Bon Bon Bungalow is within walking
distance to Blue Beach Bar, Tranquility spa, NuSpa, John’s travel, Long Beach
Centre, and close vicinity to Pepper Tree, Ocsen Beach Bar. Few downsides I
should mention though, I wouldn’t say it is exactly super clean as there are
ants on the table when we first checked-in. It is not soundproof so you can
hear people talking/washing outside, luckily it wasn’t too noisy as there was
not a lot of guests. The shower in our room was broken. However, the bed is
super comfy and the owner is friendly and helpful. There is a cute pug named
August too.

If budget is not a concern and you prefer a more relaxing place for your stay I
think you should consider other hotels like Novotel, JW Marriot, Seashells, The Shell etc. There are lots of beautiful
hotels in Phu Quoc!Go check it out!
Food:
Mango Bay On
The Rocks
When the taxi drops you off at Mango Bay resort, just
walk a little bit more and you will see a beautiful restaurant by the sea
awaiting you. You need to make a booking before you come. We didn’t know this
and just walked in. Lucky for us there are place for two. It was almost full
house when we arrived, hmm, good sign.
True enough, we ordered risotto, tuna , thai aglio olio and the food was al dente. It was rather pricey but the food quality and ambience was so worth it.

Blue Bar
Beach Club
We came here around 7.30am and it was already open.
However they were only selling few cocktails at this time and we were the only
customers haha. We were actually in a rush for island hopping so we just
ordered 2 mojitos, instastoried abit, took some photos and ciao. The mojitos
are nice and the place is nice too. I would recommend you to come here at a
proper timing, say, evening🤣The Coffee Concept, Long Bar Beach Centre
We came here for breakfast before waiting for the free
shuttle to Hon Thom Sunworld Park. It’s a local chain with simple food and
beverages. Wanted to order banh mi, dun have, wanna order some sandwich, also
dun have. So we ended up ordering one spaghetti, one strawberry shake, one
chocolate pastry and one coffee. Food was okayyy, drinks were too sweet, so
don’t keep your hopes too high
It didn’t take us long to explore all of Dinh Cau
Night Market until we finally settle down at Xuan Seafood. This stall is the
most crowded one and I take it as a good sign for good food. Our initial plan
is to eat a lobster thinking it is cheaper but hell no! it is more expensive.
RM200for the smallest lobster. We ordered a seafood hotpot instead and the soup
was tasty the fish was fresh! Again I gave their coffee a try but omg too sweet
to my liking!
Pepper Tree
Restaurant
This is claimed the best restaurant in Phu Quoc. The
whole place feels like Suffolk House Penang. This place requires reservation
too. Tbh, food was ok, but not as good as Mango Bay. Price is
much higher too, but we were feeling rich that night, so oh well.

Ocsen Beach
Club
After dinner at Pepper Tree we walked to Ocsen Beach
Club which is just beside to rave. As its name suggest, it is a beach bar, with
relaxed n chill crowd lying on beanie bags on the beach, either smoking shisha,
drinking alcohol or just talking with friends. You can stay for the daily fire
show at 9pm.

Cassia
Cottage
We walked from our hotel to this place for breakfast thinking
it’s very near. Don’t be like us! Take a taxi instead to save u the heat and
energy. Nothing too fancy about breakfast here as it is just typical buffet
breakfast for house guests. Only thing that is nice is the swimming pool lol.
Activities:
Starfish Beach
There are good news and bad news.Good news is there are alot of starfishes easily spotted along the shoreline. Bad news is, the water is so dirty it's a challenge for your photography skills. It's a long and bumpy ride from our hotel to this beach but when we reached, the rain just subsided and the water was really murky. Good luck starfish hunting!
NuSpa:
If I were given another chance, I would opt for a
slightly more atas spa. 🤣 My friend enjoyed her Vietnamese massage whereby me
on the otherhand wasn’t quite satisfied with the body scrub. Due to some
miscommunication my aloe vera scrub somehow ended up as coffee scrub. I was
quite happy when they first massaged my head but then it became more
uncomfortable after 10-20x repetition. Imagine someone kept hitting your head
and pull your hair until you feel like crying stop. After the scrub I had to bathe in
a small toilet with staffs laundry in buckets without a showerhead and dry
myself up using what somewhat looks like the staffs towel (in which I hope is
not). Otherwise all is good, they have music too. And the price is dirt cheap.
Not bad of an economic experience I would say.
Island
hopping:
Whether you know how to swim or not you should try
snorkeling in Phu Quoc. The water is clear and the marine life is so beautiful
here! One thing to be caution though, beware of hanky panky snorkeling guides!
HonThom
Sunworld:
There is free shuttle from each areas to fetch you to
HonThom Cable Car departure point. Schedule as attached.
When you first arrive at the Departure point, you will
see Rome Coloseum architecture that would make you stop and take a few pictures.
HonThom cable car is the longest cable car ~7.9km. It might look scary from
outside but trust me, once inside, the 360◦
scenic sea view and gentle breeze will take your acrophobia away!
Once you reach Sunworld, hop on a buggy ride to
HonThom Beach. Forget abt other beaches in Phu Quoc this is the beach you MUST
come to in Phu Quoc. As you walk to the beach you can already see shades of
coconut trees lining along the beach, giving off the ideal beach vibes. Choose
your favourite hammock n laze there whole afternoon or get wet in the sea. If
you are hungry, just grab a bite from the nearby stalls.
Sunset Sanato Beach Club
When I first saw The Gatekeeper picture on Insta I
knew I must come to this place. You have to pay 100,000vnd/pax to enter the
beach club. Once inside, look out for the iconic features like pillar of atlas,
Tarzan’s Castle, Elephants of Atlantis, Jungle Bar, Beach of Hats, Dragon’s
Cave, the Sunset Beach and of course, The Gate Keeper.
